As we know, Japanese anime culture is becoming more famous in the world. This movie shows the anime event in France. More than seventeen hundred people joined this Japanese culture event in 4days. This TV program shows the event as comical and welcome for Japan.
To follow such a trend, Japanese government decided a logo “cool Japan” which is for advertising Japanese culture industries on September 13th. The head of the officer said “we need to promote Cool Japan strategy in order to recovery from the huge earth quake.” In my view, becoming famous Japanese culture is very glad for me, but I feel something strange. It is because it looks that foreigners understand Japanese culture from just only one side. I’m worrying that foreigners make the typical Japanese based on “Otaku”.
According to Nikkei newspaper in October 2th issue, Japanology is active in Netherland. The professor says “the most of the students start to be interested in anime, J-pop, manga. But recently some students want to learn the other matters like earthquake.”
I’m very glad that foreigners love Japanese anime and game, but I also want foreigners to understand Japanese more deeply.

My father had an experience of Parisian singing the theme song of 北斗の拳 in Japanese! This was surprising and shows how broadly Japanese anime were known.

You have an interesting point of view.I bet Japanese anime has gotten an essential position in the Japanese culture. Now is the time we should regard it as one of the traditional things that we have to save.

Now and then, I have never thought in that way.
ReplyDeleteIn Japan, there are some enthusiastic people said"Otaku".But all Japanese people are "Otaku".
To have stereotype may cause misunderstanding.

It is great to see a Japanese boom going on in France and elsewhere. That is in part, thanks to the government and other organizations from Japan who are organizing such events. I have another example - a bunraku play was performed in many countries around the world to introduce bunraku abroad. Same for kabuki - actually the world kabuki performances are more famous. Spreading culture is a good way to help people get a good impression of Japan and become more interested in Japanese life, not only culture. And, maybe it will encourage people to respect Japan more.
ReplyDeleteCan you explain what "otaku" means?
Also, what is the meaning of "cool Japan" - fashionable? trendy?
Thanks for your information - either added to the blog or as a comment.
Ms. MacGregor
Otaku is a nerd, so it is not a good mean. Therefore I want foreigners to know not only such a specific aspect but also the traditional materials like Kabuki and bunraku.
ReplyDeletecool Japan means, I think, include trendy and fashonable.
